About me and the art work I create

I was born in the Kiapara area, in Northland, New Zealand. Left home at 15 years old.

I have enjoyed creating art since a very young age.

I was still in primary school when I sold my first painting.

After working for 3 years, I decided to go back to school part time as an adult student to get my university entrance in art.
I done this at Tikipunga High (Whangarei).
As a student that never enjoyed the constraints of school, I found going back to school as an adult student very refreshing, rewarding, enjoyable &  the rules I had to abide by were now relaxed. Its amazing what a difference a few years can make.

I have had a couple my paintings displayed in the National Art Gallery of New Zealand (Wellington) and I have also won several design competitions & logo design competitions, one being the logo redesign of the Dargaville hospital, also logo and website design of Link Employment Services.

In my early 20’s I suffered a brain heamorrage, which for a time left me with stroke like symptoms. It was at this stage that I gave painting away, as my coordination in my hands had gone & I also lost my confidence.
I was no longer able to draw & paint with the precision & preciseness I once had.

Once I decided I just couldn’t manage to paint I turned my hand at designing knit wear for the souvenir chain of shops “The New Zealand Shop”, situated at most of the bigger airports.

Then in my mid 20’s & living in Wellington, I was diagnosed with cancer. Three operations later I didn’t know weather I would get better & decided it was time to go home to be with family in Northland.

In 1999 I made to move to Melbourne, Australia. Shortly afterwards I found myself as a single mum. I hated that people would judge you for “just being a single mum” and thought all you done each day was watch the soaps. It was at this time, that I done a lot of inner body healing to find myself.  I then decided to go back to school, which was a little scary considering I was then in my late 30’s. I chose to partake in several IT courses, including diploma level in Interactive multimedia studies. Learning these new skills with a computer brought back my interest in the arts & I started designing, logo’s, websites, photo manipulation & computer generated images.

In 2003 I met my current husband, who gives me so much strength & encouragement in any creative activity I chose to follow in, weather I am using his welder in the shed or sculpting, painting or molding. It is my husband that has given me the strength to pick up a paint brush again. Thank you hun.
